Stressing that the world is in growing catastrophe, US President Joe Biden said that despite challenges the globe has the capacity to build an equitable clean energy future.
“We are in a growing catastrophe, I believe there is an incredible opportunity not just for the US but for all of us,” Biden said while speaking at COP26 World Leaders’ Summit in Glasgow on Monday.
Emphasising that the globe is standing at an inflexion point of world history, Biden said: “We have the ability to invest in ourselves and build an equitable clean energy future.”

He stressed that the efforts will create “millions of good plain jobs and opportunities” around the world.
The US President further underlined that efforts will provide cleaner air for children, bountiful oceans, healthier forests and a healthy ecosystem for the planet.
The COP26 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) kicked off here on Sunday under the Presidency of the UK partnering with Italy. It brings all parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Build Back Better World (B3W)
The United States is committed to realizing not only the emissions reductions potential, but also the economic growth and jobs creation opportunities across key sectors.
Through tackling methane emissions, spurring innovations, and supporting sustainable agriculture, President Biden today is announcing bold steps aimed to push the US clean energy economy forward and create good-paying jobs.
Biden is unveiling a US Methane Emissions Reduction Action Plan that redoubles efforts from across the government to dramatically reduce US methane emissions, cut consumer costs, protect workers and communities, maintain and create high-quality, union-friendly jobs, and promote U.S. innovation and manufacturing of critical new technologies.
The President is also announcing how the US is partnering with countries around the world to drive innovation and deep decarbonisation, including through Net-Zero World to chart pathways to deep decarbonisation; the Clean Energy Demand Initiative that will facilitate greater corporate procurement of renewable energy; and the First Movers Coalition that will drive innovation by sending a demand signal for the new technologies we need in industry, aviation, and heavy-duty transportation, the White House said in a press release.
The President is pursuing efforts with partners around the world to mobilize public and private finance for climate-smart economic growth and development, including by bringing a climate lens to infrastructure development through Build Back Better World (B3W), creating jobs in clean industries in the US and other countries including a new partnership with South Africa, and strengthening the pipeline of bankable projects and facilitating private investment in climate-smart development through USTDA and USAID programming.
The President also recognises the critical role of natural ecosystems in solving the climate crisis, launching major initiatives including AIM for Climate to spur agricultural innovation, the Plan to Conserve Global Forests which will catalyse global efforts to conserve and restore forests and other critical ecosystems, the White House added.
