Pro-Palestinian Protestors Hold Mock Funeral in NYC

The relentless Israeli airstrikes and ground invasion have led to a reported death toll of at least 21,320 people, mostly women and children…reports Asian Lite News

A large  gathering of pro-Palestinian demonstrators took place in New York City on Thursday, protesting Israel’s ongoing intense bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip. The protesters, carrying banners calling for an immediate ceasefire, convened in Bryant Park in Manhattan. Some briefly occupied the bustling Sixth Avenue in Midtown, drawing attention to the toll the conflict has taken on children in Gaza.

During the demonstration, several women draped in black carried baby dolls wrapped in white cloths symbolizing the impact of the fighting on children in the coastal territory. The protest then turned into a mock funeral procession, making its way to the iconic Times Square. Against the backdrop of electronic advertisements, activists continued their call for peace.

Archivist Grace Lile, 64, highlighted the devastating toll on children, stating that almost 10,000 children alone have lost their lives in Gaza since the conflict began with Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7. The war has particularly ravaged northern Gaza, with intensified bombardment in the southern city of Khan Yunis. Israel, responding to the October 7 attack, has vowed to dismantle Hamas, resulting in approximately 1,140 casualties, predominantly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

The relentless Israeli airstrikes and ground invasion have led to a reported death toll of at least 21,320 people, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s health ministry run by Hamas. Since the October 7 attack and subsequent military actions, New York City has witnessed numerous protests, with both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel demonstrators expressing their views on the streets.
