The US on Tuesday praised India’s parliamentary elections as the “largest exercise of democracy in history”, while refraining from commenting on the outcomes of the polls.
State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller commended the Indian government and its voters for successfully completing the massive electoral process. “On behalf of the United States, we want to commend the government of India and voters there for successfully completing and participating in such a massive electoral undertaking, and we look forward to seeing final results,” he stated during his daily news briefing.

Miller emphasised the US stance on not commenting on electoral winners and losers worldwide. “I’m also not going to comment on winners and losers in elections as is our case around the world. What is important for us and what we have seen over the past six weeks is the largest exercise of democracy in history, as the Indian people came to the polls,” he added.
Meanwhile, the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) extended their heartfelt congratulations to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a historic third consecutive win in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The Board of the USISPF extended congratulations to the citizens of India for successfully concluding another chapter in India’s proud democratic history.
“The Board of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) congratulates the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on a historic third consecutive term in the 2024 Lok Sabha General Elections,” the USISPF said in a statement.
They further lauded the Indian democracy, stressing that the backbone and hallmark of any democracy is the electorate.
“The vibrancy and resilience of India’s democracy are truly exemplary, showcasing the country’s steadfast commitment to democratic values and principles,” they said.
The global community observed this monumental exercise, which saw just under a billion voters participating in the festival of democracy, with profound admiration and will draw valuable lessons from India’s democratic process.
The USISPF board expressed its honour to work closely with both governments to strengthen the US-India Strategic Partnership.
“We look forward to continuing our work with the Government of India to strengthen the enduring bonds between the world’s oldest and largest democracies,” they said in their statement.
Their partnership will focus on fostering deeper economic and commercial ties, enhancing bilateral trade, strengthening strategic cooperation and collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, and deepening people-to-people ties.
“Together, we will work towards a prosperous and secure future for both nations, making it one of the most consequential relationships in the 21st century,” they added.
Netanyahu congratulates PM Modi on being reelected for third consecutive term

Tel Aviv [Israel], June 5 (ANI): Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a post on X, has extended wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday on being re-elected for a third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha polls.
Wishing PM Modi, Netanyahu said, “I extend my warmest congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being reelected for a third consecutive term.”
“May the friendship between India and Israel continue to surge towards new heights. Badhaai Ho !” the Israeli PM wrote on X.
Netanyahu’s wishes come at a time when Israel’s war with Hamas has entered the 8th month.
The counting of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was held on Tuesday. According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats, and with its allies has 292 seats in the Parliament. The Congress, on the other hand, registered a strong growth winning 99 seats.
With PM Modi registering his win for the third consecutive term, wishes from global leaders also came pouring in at the speed of light.
The Italian PM, in her congratulatory message to Prime Minister Modi, said that both nations will cooperate on various issues that bind the two nations and are for the well-being of the people.
“Congratulations to @narendramodi on the new electoral victory and my warmest wishes for good work. Certain that we will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and consolidate cooperation on the various issues that bind us, for the well-being of our Nations and our peoples,” Italian PM Meloni said in a post on X.
Other leaders also congratulated PM Modi and the BJP-led NDA government on their third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha polls.
Singapore Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, also extended congratulations to PM Modi earlier today. “Congratulations, @narendramodi on the historic victory by the NDA for the third consecutive term,” he wrote in a post on X.
“Look forward to working with you to deepen the Singapore-India partnership and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year,” Wong added.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu too, congratulated PM Modi and said he looks forward to working together to advance the ‘shared interest’ in pursuit of shared prosperity and stability for our two countries. (ANI)
