Dubai rolls out mega plan for New Year’s Eve

Dubai declares full readiness for New Year 2026 celebrations, deploying massive security, transport and emergency operations to ensure safe, smooth and spectacular festivities across the emirate….reports Asian Lite News

Dubai has declared itself fully prepared to welcome the New Year 2026, with authorities unveiling one of the most extensive security, safety and transport operations ever mounted for the emirate’s globally watched celebrations.

The announcement was made by the Dubai Event Security Committee (ESC) during a press conference at Dubai Civil Defence headquarters, attended by senior officials from government bodies, emergency services and private-sector partners. Together, they outlined a tightly coordinated plan designed to ensure that New Year’s Eve festivities unfold smoothly, safely and on a scale that reflects Dubai’s status as a leading international events destination.

This year’s celebrations will feature fireworks at 40 locations across the emirate, with 48 separate displays lighting up the skyline. Iconic sites such as the Burj Khalifa, Global Village, Atlantis The Royal, Expo City Dubai, Dubai Frame, Bab Al Shams Desert Resort, Al Marmoom Oasis, Emirates Golf Club, Dubai Parks and Resorts and Hatta will anchor the festivities, drawing residents and visitors from around the world.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Operations and Chairman of the ESC, said that preparations reflect months of planning and unprecedented coordination. A total of 55 government, semi-government and private-sector entities are operating under a unified security framework, with Dubai divided into four operational sectors — North, Central, West and Marine — to ensure rapid response and seamless service delivery across land and sea.

Dubai Police have deployed 9,884 officers and 1,625 patrol vehicles, supported by 53 marine security and rescue boats, mounted patrols, bicycles and foot patrols. In addition, 37 support and assistance tents have been set up at celebration sites to provide first aid, police services, lost-and-found assistance, guidance for visitors and care for lost children.

Al Mazrouei urged the public to cooperate fully with security personnel, follow safety instructions and adhere to traffic regulations. Emergency cases can be reported via 999, while non-emergency enquiries should be directed to 901. Officers stationed across event locations will also be available to assist the public.

In a gesture underscoring Dubai’s inclusive approach, dedicated viewing areas have been arranged for workers in coordination with the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs. These areas are equipped with large screens and meals, allowing workers to enjoy the celebrations in a safe and organised environment.

Dubai Civil Defence confirmed full readiness for New Year’s Eve 2026, deploying more than 1,754 firefighters across key locations. Major General Expert Ali Hassan Al Mutawa said operational plans have been fully approved, with celebration areas divided into five sectors — Deira, Bur Dubai, Central Dubai, Jebel Ali and the Waterfront. More than 306 vital facilities have been inspected, while 156 specialised vehicles, including marine firefighting boats, are on standby through 26 Civil Defence stations. The public has been advised to call 997 in case of emergencies.

Traffic and transport arrangements will once again play a critical role. Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA, said Dubai’s integrated traffic plan builds on the success of previous years. More than 2.5 million passengers used public transport on New Year’s Eve 2025, up from 2.29 million in 2024, reflecting steady year-on-year growth.

Road closures around key event zones will begin at 4pm and gradually expand until 11pm, covering major arteries including Sheikh Zayed Road, Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and roads surrounding the Burj Khalifa district. Around 28,000 parking spaces will be available in and around Downtown Dubai and metro stations, supported by overflow parking at nearby locations.

Public transport capacity has been significantly increased, with more than 14,000 taxis, 18,000 limousine and luxury vehicles and 1,300 buses in operation. Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines, along with the Dubai Tram, will run continuously for up to 43 hours, ensuring round-the-clock connectivity. Advanced AI systems, including iTraffic and big data analytics, will be used to predict congestion and manage flows in real time from the Unified Control Centre.

Dubai Ambulance Services have activated 236 ambulance points across the emirate, supported by air ambulances, marine units, electric and bicycle ambulances and rapid response teams. More than 600 staff will be on duty, with volunteers assisting in high-density areas. Healthcare services are also on full alert, with hospitals, clinics and a field hospital near the Burj Khalifa ready to respond.

Adding to the spectacle, fireworks and drone shows will debut from Dubai Frame, while public beaches will be reserved for families and parks will extend operating hours. Dubai Media will broadcast the celebrations globally, alongside special programming celebrating the UAE’s achievements in 2025.
