Members of the Indian diaspora in Japan have strongly endorsed Operation Sindoor, India’s targeted military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the government’s firm resolve against cross-border terrorism.
The sentiments were voiced during a high-profile outreach programme at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, where a cross-party Indian parliamentary delegation addressed the diaspora and underscored the nation’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. The delegation was led by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha and included BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi and Brij Lal, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M) MP John Brittas, and Congress leader Salman Khurshid.
Describing Operation Sindoor as a “strategic shift” in India’s counter-terror doctrine, the delegation highlighted the significance of India’s forceful retaliation against Pakistan-backed terror hubs. According to the delegation, the operation dismantled nine high-value targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, sending a clear signal that India will no longer remain passive in the face of terrorism.
Diaspora members welcomed the initiative with emotion and patriotic fervour.
“Until now, we often felt helpless seeing the news from home. But this time, we felt proud—India responded strongly,” said one participant.
“Operation Sindoor is not just a military step, it’s a matter of the heart. I symbolically applied sindoor in solidarity,” said another, referring to the traditional red powder worn by married Hindu women.
Many participants highlighted the symbolism and emotional resonance of the operation’s name. One attendee described it as “deeply rooted in our culture and perfectly suited for a mission that defends our nation’s dignity.”
The diaspora also pointed to India’s growing global stature as a reason for its robust response. “As the world’s fourth-largest economy, India must remain politically stable. This operation made it clear that terrorism will be met with consequences,” said another attendee.
Commending Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, a diaspora member said, “He handled the situation decisively. We are happy to see India stand strong.” In contrast, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi came under criticism from some attendees, with one saying, “He always finds something negative to say—there’s nothing surprising about that.”
Jha told the gathering that part of the delegation’s mission was to inform the international community and the Indian diaspora about the ongoing threat from across the border. “It’s important to expose the role of Pakistan’s government and army in fuelling terrorism. The global community needs to understand the scale and continuity of this threat,” he said.
He also pointed to evidence of Pakistan’s complicity, including reports of state funerals for terrorists neutralised by Indian forces, describing it as “the true face of a rogue state.” In contrast, he highlighted the vibrancy of Srinagar, now suffering economically due to the attack.
The event concluded with a moment of silence for the victims of the Pahalgam attack. The Indian Embassy stated that the session ended on a solemn but united note, reinforcing solidarity among Indians worldwide against terrorism.
