The United Arab Emirates and the Russian Federation have signalled a renewed drive to deepen cooperation across a wide spectrum of future-focused sectors, as both nations position themselves to strengthen economic resilience amid shifting global trends.

At the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russia–UAE Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation, held in Dubai, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, underscored the strategic foundations underpinning the partnership. Co-chaired alongside Russian Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov, the meeting gathered senior officials and private-sector representatives from both countries to chart the next phase of economic engagement.

Bin Touq said that the latest session marked “a new step” in building productive partnerships between the two business communities, noting that the UAE’s expanding economic landscape offers fertile ground for collaboration. With flexible legislation enabling 100 per cent foreign ownership and more than 2,000 economic activities open to investors, he said the Emirates is well positioned to support entrepreneurial ventures from Russia.

“Our cooperation focuses on new economy sectors and priority areas that serve the mutual interests of the two countries,” he emphasised, pointing to innovation-driven industries as central to future growth.

The committee’s agenda reflected the widening scope of bilateral cooperation, with discussions spanning investment, energy, advanced industry, innovation, food security, agriculture, education, transport, logistics, tourism, sports, culture, environmental protection and healthcare. Both sides reviewed mechanisms to accelerate joint projects, enhance regulatory alignment and foster an enabling environment for cross-border business.

With global supply chains undergoing rapid transformation and new technologies reshaping traditional economic models, officials highlighted the value of developing forward-looking frameworks that support sustainable development and long-term competitiveness.

The UAE and Russia agreed to continue working closely to establish new cooperation mechanisms in priority sectors, reaffirming their commitment to support entrepreneurs and expand trade and investment flows. The renewed momentum aims to elevate bilateral economic relations and broaden the partnership into high-growth areas central to the new economy.
