Global firms expand India bets with major investments

Swiss engineering and technology company ABB also committed $75 million in March to expand manufacturing and research capabilities in India, focusing on key industrial sectors…reports Asian Lite News Desk

Global companies are strengthening their presence in India with multi-billion-dollar investment commitments across technology, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and digital services, highlighting growing confidence in the country’s economic potential.

Amid global uncertainty, trade disruptions and geopolitical challenges, India has emerged as a preferred destination for multinational corporations seeking long-term growth opportunities. Major firms are investing heavily in areas such as data centres, industrial automation, research and development and advanced technologies.

Google announced a five-year investment plan worth $15 billion in February to support India’s artificial intelligence and digital ecosystem. The initiative includes investments in subsea connectivity, data centres, cloud infrastructure and AI skill development.

Swiss engineering and technology company ABB also committed $75 million in March to expand manufacturing and research capabilities in India, focusing on key industrial sectors.

The country’s growing digital infrastructure demand has attracted major investments in the data centre sector. Australian data centre operator AirTrunk announced plans in June to invest $30 billion in India by 2030 to build 5 gigawatts of data centre capacity.

Canada Pension Plan Investment Board has also committed up to Rs 7,000 crore through a partnership with CtrlS Datacenters to support hyperscale data centre expansion and digital infrastructure projects.

French building materials company Saint-Gobain announced an additional investment of €1 billion in India over the next five years, identifying the country as one of its fastest-growing markets.

The latest major announcement came from Amazon, with CEO Andy Jassy confirming plans to increase the company’s total investment commitment in India to $48 billion by 2030. The investment will focus on artificial intelligence, cloud services and digital expansion.

The growing list of commitments reflects India’s rising importance in global business strategies. With a large consumer market, expanding digital ecosystem and government focus on manufacturing and innovation, companies are increasingly positioning India as a key hub for future growth.

The investment momentum also signals confidence in India’s ability to attract global capital and strengthen its role in emerging industries that are expected to shape the global economy.
