The summit comes as the TVK government completes 96 days in office. Since taking charge, the administration has placed industrial development, employment generation and investment promotion among its key priorities
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will lead the Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors’ Summit in Chennai on Thursday, as the state government steps up efforts to attract more than Rs 1 lakh crore in industrial investments during its first 100 days in office.
The summit will be held in Guindy and is expected to bring together senior government officials, industrialists, investors and representatives of major companies.
During the event, the government is scheduled to sign memoranda of understanding with 97 companies. The proposed projects are expected to attract investments worth Rs 67,452 crore and generate 1,06,998 employment opportunities across different sectors.
The summit comes as the TVK government completes 96 days in office. Since taking charge, the administration has placed industrial development, employment generation and investment promotion among its key priorities.
Vijay took oath as Tamil Nadu’s 12th Chief Minister on May 10 after his party won the election to the 17th Legislative Assembly. His government has since increased engagement with domestic and international companies, seeking to strengthen the state’s position as a destination for manufacturing, technology and services.
Including agreements signed during the past three months, the government expects to complete 104 MoUs within its first 100 days. Together, the proposed agreements are expected to represent investments of Rs 1,02,514 crore and create 1,21,788 jobs.
The latest batch of agreements is expected to account for a substantial portion of the investment commitments announced by the government so far.
Officials believe the projects could strengthen Tamil Nadu’s industrial base while creating employment opportunities for skilled workers, graduates and young people entering the workforce.
The government is also expected to outline measures aimed at ensuring that projects move from the MoU stage to actual implementation. These could include faster regulatory clearances, coordination between government departments and continued engagement with investors.
Thursday’s summit is being presented as a significant early milestone for the new administration, which is seeking to demonstrate its ability to secure large-scale investments within a short timeframe.
Details of the participating companies, proposed project locations and sector-wise investment commitments are expected to be announced during the summit.
