Produced by Githesh V under the Kalamaya Films banner, Enna Vilai blends family drama with socio-political themes. The film’s growing festival presence has helped build anticipation ahead of its domestic theatrical release
Nimisha Sajayan-starrer Enna Vilai is adding another international milestone to its festival journey, with the socio-political family thriller officially selected for the Kaia International Film Festival 2026 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Directed by Sajeev Pazhoor, the film has already attracted attention on the international festival circuit after winning Best Feature Film at the Mannheim Arts and Film Festival in Germany. It has also received the Best Screenplay Award at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival.
Sajayan shared the Istanbul selection on Instagram, celebrating the film’s latest recognition ahead of its planned theatrical release in September.
The film stars Sajayan and Karunaas in the lead, alongside Y Gee Mahendran, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Mohan Ram, Lollu Sabha Swaminathan, Kavithalayaa Krishna, Deepa Shankar, Mottai Rajendran and Nakkalites Kavi.

Adding a personal touch to the film’s promotional journey, the makers chose the villagers of Paalam in Dhanushkodi to unveil its first look. A major portion of the film was shot in the village, and the team wanted to acknowledge the community that supported them during production.
Rather than organising a conventional celebrity-led launch, the filmmakers returned to Paalam and invited local residents to reveal the first look. The event became an expression of gratitude towards the community and its contribution to the filmmaking process.
Producer Githesh V said the team wanted the film to begin its public journey with the people who had welcomed them during the shoot. He described the decision as more than a promotional event, calling it a heartfelt thank-you to the villagers.
Director Sajeev Pazhoor similarly said that the people and places involved in making a film can become part of its story. He added that the team wanted Enna Vilai to first belong to the people who had stood beside them before reaching audiences elsewhere.
With its Istanbul selection following recognition in Germany and India, Enna Vilai is building momentum as it prepares to reach theatres in September.
