Amazon on Thursday announced plans to invest 48 billion US dollars in India between 2026 and 2030, reaffirming its long term commitment to the country after Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
The investment will support the company’s expanding operations across ecommerce, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital infrastructure, making India one of Amazon’s biggest global investment destinations.
As part of the overall commitment, Amazon will invest an additional 13 billion US dollars to expand its artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure by 2030.
The fresh commitment takes Amazon’s total planned investment in AI and cloud infrastructure in India to more than 21 billion US dollars between 2026 and 2030, making it one of the largest global investors in the country’s AI and cloud ecosystem.
The investment will be used to expand Amazon Web Services data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, enabling startups, businesses and government organisations to access advanced AI chips, managed AI services, secure cloud infrastructure and developer tools.
Amazon said its cumulative investments in India between 2010 and 2030 will exceed 88 billion US dollars.
“We came to India over a decade ago and have since been serving customers, sellers, developers, startups and enterprises through our different businesses. The response has been tremendous, with strong growth especially across our ecommerce, AI, and cloud businesses,” Jassy said.
“We are investing over 48 billion US dollars in the coming five years to meet the strong demand across our business in India and to help the country achieve these priorities. We are inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat, and we are committed to being a long term partner in India’s growth story,” he added.
Jassy thanked Prime Minister Modi for his leadership and highlighted India’s growing importance in Amazon’s global strategy. He said the company’s businesses, including ecommerce, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and entertainment, continue to witness strong customer demand.
According to Amazon, the company has digitised 12 million small businesses since entering India, enabled more than 20 billion US dollars in cumulative ecommerce exports and supported 2.8 million jobs across the country.
The company has also trained over 10 million people in cloud computing skills.
Amazon said its future investments would remain aligned with the Government’s priorities, focusing on AI driven digitisation, exports and employment generation.
The company has committed to supporting 3.8 million jobs, enabling 80 billion US dollars in cumulative exports, extending AI benefits to 15 million small businesses and providing AI education to four million government school students.
The announcement comes as global technology companies continue to expand their investments in India’s fast growing digital economy, with artificial intelligence and cloud computing emerging as key areas of strategic focus.
