Xi Jinping has proposed a four point framework aimed at promoting long term peace and stability in the Middle East, according to China’s foreign ministry.
Speaking on Tuesday, foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the proposal is rooted in key principles including peaceful coexistence, respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, and balancing development with security.
In a statement shared on X, Mao said the Chinese president had laid out “four propositions on safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East”.
The first point emphasises peaceful coexistence among Gulf nations. China urged regional countries to strengthen ties and work towards building a shared, comprehensive and sustainable security framework, noting that neighbouring states must find ways to coexist and cooperate.
The second pillar focuses on national sovereignty, with China calling on all parties to respect territorial integrity. Mao stressed that sovereignty is fundamental, particularly for developing nations, and should not be undermined under any circumstances.
The proposal also highlights the importance of upholding international law. China called for firm support for the global system centred on the United Nations and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter, which guide relations between states.
The fourth point advocates a balanced approach to development and security. According to Mao, security is essential for economic progress, while development helps reinforce stability. China signalled its willingness to work with Gulf nations by sharing opportunities linked to its modernisation efforts.
