The Indian Air Force has concluded its participation in two major international air exercises in Australia and Malaysia, highlighting its operational capabilities and growing defence cooperation with partner countries across the Indo-Pacific.
The IAF took part in Exercise Pitch Black 2026 in Australia and Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 in Malaysia as part of a dual-nation deployment aimed at enhancing tactical coordination, interoperability and operational readiness.
“Indian Air Force successfully concluded its participation in two pivotal international flight engagements: Exercise Pitch Black 2026 in Australia and Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 in Malaysia,” the Press Information Bureau said in a post on X.

“The dual-nation deployment underscored the IAF’s operational reach, advanced tactical coordination, and commitment to strengthening strategic defence partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region,” it added.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the exercises allowed Indian aircrew and support personnel to operate alongside partner air forces in demanding operational environments while exchanging experience and improving coordination.
Exercise Pitch Black 2026, hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force, saw the IAF deploy its Rafale fighter aircraft alongside air forces from more than 20 countries.
The multinational exercise featured complex Large Force Employment missions in a high-threat and multi-domain operational environment. The ministry said the training enabled participating forces to integrate their operations and develop greater interoperability among partner air forces.
Following the exercise in Australia, the Indian contingent moved directly to Subang in Malaysia for Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 with the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
During the bilateral exercise, IAF aircrew conducted high-intensity combat sorties and joint tactical manoeuvres alongside Malaysian fighter aircraft, including Su-30MKM and F/A-18 Hornet jets.
The exercise focused on enhancing air combat tactics, facilitating exchanges between subject matter experts and improving the ability of the two air forces to operate together during complex missions.
The defence ministry said cooperation during both deployments extended beyond flying operations, with personnel also engaging in maintenance practices, mission planning and professional exchanges.
“Throughout both deployments, joint operations extended beyond the cockpit to include maintenance practices, mission planning exchanges, and cultural interactions,” the ministry said.

Such engagements also provided opportunities for aircrew and support teams to gain exposure to different operational procedures while strengthening professional ties among participating personnel.
The IAF’s participation comes as India continues to expand defence cooperation with partner countries across the Indo-Pacific. Regular multinational and bilateral air exercises allow participating forces to test operational readiness, develop common procedures and improve coordination during complex missions.
The Ministry of Defence said the dual-nation deployment demonstrated the IAF’s commitment to strengthening strategic defence partnerships and contributing to regional security and stability.
The exercises also underlined the importance of regular joint training in maintaining combat preparedness and improving interoperability between partner air forces.
The ministry said the Indian Air Force remains committed to enhancing regional stability, fostering interoperability and advancing collaborative security initiatives through continued joint training engagements with air forces around the world.
