The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday said discussions between National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi were “forward looking” and “constructive”, as both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and efforts to restore normalcy in ties.
The meeting took place on Monday on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisors’ Meeting being hosted by India in New Delhi.
Addressing the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the two leaders discussed the state of India-China relations and acknowledged progress made towards the gradual normalisation of bilateral ties.
“There was a meeting yesterday between the National Security Advisor and CPC Politburo member and Foreign Minister of China, His Excellency Wang Yi. The two sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and noted progress towards gradual normalisation in ties,” Jaiswal said.
He noted that NSA Doval stressed the importance of maintaining stable and predictable relations between the two Asian neighbours.
“National Security Advisor underlined that stable, predictable and constructive bilateral relations contribute to building trust and better understanding between the two sides. These discussions were forward looking and constructive,” he added.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong and senior officials from both countries were also present during the meeting.
According to a statement issued by Ambassador Xu Feihong on social media platform X, Wang Yi emphasised the importance of viewing India-China ties from a long term and global perspective.
He said that as the world’s two most populous countries, India and China should deepen cooperation to support their respective development goals and contribute to the modernisation and advancement of the Global South.

Wang also called for implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and promoting practical cooperation across sectors.
The Chinese Foreign Minister expressed support for India’s role as the rotating chair of BRICS and said Beijing was ready to work with New Delhi to strengthen the grouping and enhance cooperation among member states.
According to the Chinese side, Wang stressed the need to respect each other’s core interests and properly manage sensitive issues, including the boundary question, to ensure that differences do not affect the overall development of bilateral relations.
He also highlighted the importance of fostering positive public perceptions and strengthening the social foundation for improved ties between the two countries.
India is currently hosting the two day BRICS National Security Advisors’ Meeting, which has brought together top security officials and representatives from member countries to discuss emerging global security challenges, regional developments and avenues for deeper strategic cooperation.
The gathering serves as a key platform for consultations among BRICS nations on issues ranging from counter terrorism and cybersecurity to geopolitical developments and multilateral cooperation.
