India seeks stronger Singapore ties across Asia

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has reaffirmed India’s focus on deeper economic cooperation with Singapore and stronger business partnerships across Asia…reports Asian Lite News Desk

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening economic ties with Singapore and strengthening partnerships across Asia, with a focus on greater business-to-business collaboration.

Addressing INSEAD alumni and students, Singaporean entrepreneurs and Indian businesses at the India-Singapore Business Forum in Singapore, Goyal highlighted India’s economic growth, investment opportunities and government efforts to improve the ease of doing business.

Goyal said India was creating new opportunities for farmers and processed food manufacturers to expand their presence in Singapore and access markets across the ASEAN region and Australia.

During his visit, Goyal met Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, Gan Siow Huang, and other dignitaries at an APEDA-FairPrice roadshow-cum-in-store promotion aimed at expanding exports of Indian agricultural and processed food products.

“Organic products, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen fruits and vegetables, dairy products, cashew, rice, millet-based products, and products sourced from different regions of India are being promoted through this engagement,” Goyal said in a post on X.

The minister also held discussions with Sopnendu Mohanty, Group CEO of Global Finance and Technology Network, a Singapore-based global advisory and investment firm. Their talks focused on opportunities to strengthen cooperation between India and Singapore in financial innovation, technology and emerging areas of the digital economy.

“We also exchanged views on how India’s dynamic financial ecosystem and Singapore’s global financial and technology network offer significant opportunities for greater collaboration,” Goyal said.

Goyal also met Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure, as part of his engagements with Singaporean business leaders.

The minister’s visit comes amid broader efforts to strengthen economic and commercial ties between India and Singapore. He joined Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada for the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, where the Indian delegation engaged with Singaporean counterparts.

Goyal said India’s growing economy, expanding investment opportunities and evolving financial and technology ecosystem could provide a strong foundation for deeper cooperation with Singapore and other Asian markets.

The engagements also highlighted opportunities for Indian agricultural producers, food manufacturers, financial institutions and technology companies to expand their international presence through stronger partnerships with Singapore.
