India and Thailand on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their Strategic Partnership, with senior officials holding discussions on expanding bilateral trade, investment, connectivity and regional cooperation.
India’s Ambassador to Thailand, Puneet Agrawal, called on Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, to review the growing bilateral relationship and explore ways to further enhance cooperation across key sectors.
In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Thailand said the meeting focused on strengthening the India-Thailand Strategic Partnership through balanced growth in trade and investment, deeper religious and cultural ties, enhanced people-to-people exchanges, improved connectivity initiatives and closer coordination on regional issues.
The discussions reflected the growing momentum in bilateral ties since India and Thailand elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangkok in April last year.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Anutin Charnvirakul on his election as Thailand’s Prime Minister and reaffirmed India’s commitment to working closely with his government to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
In a message posted on X, Modi said the India-Thailand relationship is rooted in a shared civilisational heritage, close cultural links and vibrant people-to-people exchanges, adding that both countries remain committed to advancing peace, progress and prosperity in the region.
India and Thailand established diplomatic relations in 1947 and celebrated the 75th anniversary of their ties in 2022. Over the decades, the partnership has expanded across a wide range of sectors, including trade and investment, defence and security, connectivity, tourism, education, science and technology, and cultural exchanges.
According to the Indian Embassy, Thailand’s ‘Act West’ policy complements India’s ‘Act East’ policy, providing a strong foundation for deeper economic and strategic engagement between the two countries.
