Outgoing High Commissioner Pranay Verma reaffirms New Delhi’s commitment to expanding cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations with Dhaka….reports Asian Lite News Desk
Pranay Verma has reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening multifaceted engagement with Bangladesh for the mutual benefit and shared prosperity of both nations during a farewell meeting in Dhaka.
According to the High Commission of India in Bangladesh, Verma paid a farewell call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on May 24 ahead of his departure from Dhaka later this month.
During the meeting, Verma reiterated India’s willingness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors and continue expanding ties between the neighbouring countries.
Prime Minister Rahman thanked the outgoing envoy for his contribution to India Bangladesh relations and conveyed his best wishes for Verma’s next diplomatic assignment.
Khalilur Rahman was also present during the discussions.
Both sides briefly discussed several potential areas of cooperation linked to the development priorities of the two countries, according to the Indian High Commission.
Verma was appointed earlier this year as India’s next ambassador to Belgium and the European Union by the Ministry of External Affairs.
He is expected to leave Bangladesh on May 27 after serving in Dhaka during a period marked by continued diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
India has appointed former Union Minister Dinesh Trivedi as the next High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
Trivedi served as a member of the Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2019 representing the Barrackpore constituency and also held multiple terms in the Rajya Sabha during his political career.
The latest diplomatic engagement comes amid continued efforts by New Delhi and Dhaka to maintain close bilateral cooperation on regional, economic and strategic issues.
Earlier this year, S. Jaishankar held talks in New Delhi with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman.
Humayun Kabir was also present during those discussions.
During the meeting, Jaishankar reiterated India’s desire to engage constructively with Bangladesh’s new government and further deepen bilateral ties.
Both sides agreed to explore proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation through existing bilateral mechanisms, while follow up official level meetings were expected to take place at an early stage.
The discussions also covered regional and global developments of mutual interest, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
During his India visit, Khalilur Rahman also met Ajit Doval and Hardeep Singh Puri as part of wider diplomatic engagements focused on strengthening bilateral coordination and cooperation.
