External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Oman on Friday on the final leg of his four-nation Gulf tour, where he is expected to hold discussions with the Omani leadership to further strengthen bilateral ties and exchange views on regional developments.
On his arrival in Muscat, Jaishankar was received by Sheikh Ahmed Al Maskari, Director General at Oman’s Foreign Ministry.
Sharing his arrival on X, Jaishankar said, “Glad to arrive in Oman today. Appreciate the warm reception by Sheikh Ahmed Al Maskari, Director General, Foreign Ministry of Oman.”
Jaishankar’s visit to Oman concludes his official tour of Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman from July 5 to 10. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit is aimed at enhancing India’s bilateral relations with the four Gulf countries while providing an opportunity to discuss regional developments and issues of mutual interest with their leadership.
Before arriving in Oman, Jaishankar visited Kuwait, where he held talks with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Thursday.
The two leaders discussed the impact of the Gulf conflict on the wider region and reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors, including energy, trade, investment, defence, technology, food security and healthcare.
In a post on X following the meeting, Jaishankar said, “A pleasure to meet FM Kuwait Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Discussed the impact of Gulf conflict on the region and beyond. Conveyed appreciation for ensuring the well-being of the Indian community.”
“We jointly assessed our cooperation focusing on energy, trade, investments, defence, technology, food security and health domains. Confident that our Strategic Partnership will continue to strengthen in the times to come,” he added.
During his visit to Kuwait, Jaishankar also called on Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah and conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Jaishankar said, “Privileged to call on Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah of Kuwait this morning. Conveyed warm greetings of PM Narendra Modi. Deeply appreciate his commitment to taking forward our bilateral cooperation. Thank him for his sharing of perspectives on developments in the Gulf.”
The Ministry of External Affairs has said the four-nation visit is intended to deepen India’s engagement with key Gulf partners and reinforce cooperation across strategic, economic and regional issues.
Jaishankar’s meetings in Oman are expected to focus on further strengthening bilateral relations and reviewing matters of mutual interest as India continues to expand its partnership with countries across the Gulf region.
