Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday thanked the Government and people of Sweden, as well as Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, for what he described as warmth and friendship during his visit to Gothenburg.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi said the visit had delivered significant outcomes that would strengthen bilateral relations between India and Sweden.
“My visit to Sweden was marked by several important outcomes that will add new momentum to India-Sweden relations.”
He said the two countries had agreed to deepen cooperation across multiple strategic areas, including innovation, trade and technology.
“From elevating our ties to a Strategic Partnership, launching the Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0 and the India-Sweden Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor, to setting an ambitious goal of doubling bilateral trade in the next five years, the discussions were highly productive,” he said.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his appreciation for the Swedish leadership and public, adding, “I thank the people of Sweden, the Government of Sweden and PM Ulf Kristersson for the warmth and friendship.”
Earlier in the day, Modi addressed the European Round Table for Industry in Gothenburg, where he highlighted India’s economic trajectory and the growing convergence between India and Europe. The engagement brought together senior business leaders to discuss investment and industrial cooperation.
“Honoured to have addressed the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg yesterday. My speech covered the growing India-Europe convergence, the opportunities opened by the India-EU FTA, India’s reform-driven growth journey and the vast scope for collaboration in technology, clean energy, infrastructure, mobility and healthcare.”
The European Round Table for Industry, a forum bringing together leading European industrial companies, was part of a broader series of engagements aimed at strengthening economic and technological ties between India and the European Union.
Modi also met Swedish business leaders during his visit, alongside discussions attended by members of the Swedish royal family, including Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria. He said the interactions focused on expanding economic linkages between the two countries.
“In another post, PM Modi said, “Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and I met business leaders of Sweden in Gothenburg last evening. Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria also took part in this interaction. We had wide ranging conversations with the business leaders on how economic linkages between India and Sweden can be enhanced, particularly in futuristic technologies, R&D, AI, security and healthcare. I emphasised on the reform trajectory of India and how it offers new opportunities in several sectors like infrastructure, innovation, technology and more.””
According to the Prime Minister, the discussions also reflected growing opportunities in sectors such as artificial intelligence, research and development, clean energy, mobility and healthcare, with both sides exploring avenues for deeper collaboration.
The visit comes amid efforts by India to expand its strategic and economic partnerships with European nations, with a particular focus on technology-driven growth and sustainable development. Officials on both sides have indicated that the upgraded strategic partnership and new innovation initiatives are expected to guide future cooperation.
