India and the European Union on Thursday hosted the inaugural Tech Business Forum in New Delhi, signalling a new phase in digital and technology cooperation between the two partners.
The forum, held under the framework of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), brought together businesses, policymakers, researchers, think tanks and civil society representatives to explore opportunities for collaboration in emerging technologies and innovation.
According to an official statement from the European Union, the event builds on the Comprehensive Strategic Agenda Towards 2030 agreed by Indian and EU leaders earlier this year and is aimed at strengthening private sector engagement in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
Organised jointly by the EU Delegation to India and Bhutan and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the forum was supported by industry bodies including the Federation of European Business in India (FEBI) and the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).
More than 100 Indian and European technology companies participated in discussions covering a wide range of advanced technologies, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data governance and digital public infrastructure.
Participants explored ways to improve interoperability, cooperate on standards and facilitate market access, with the objective of creating new business opportunities across both markets.
The discussions also focused on promoting collaboration between industry, academia and innovation ecosystems, with organisers describing the event as the beginning of a more action oriented phase of cooperation under the TTC framework.
Officials said the forum would help operationalise the recently concluded India-EU Free Trade Agreement and the Administrative Arrangement on Advanced Electronic Signatures and Seals signed under the TTC in January 2026.
The initiative is also expected to encourage greater business to business cooperation between India and the European Union, which together account for roughly a quarter of the world’s population and economic output.
Another area of focus was talent mobility. The recently launched European Legal Gateway Office in India was highlighted as a pilot initiative aimed at facilitating the movement of Indian information and communications technology professionals, students and researchers to Europe.
The programme is expected to contribute to the European Union’s Digital Decade target of creating 20 million ICT specialists by 2030.
Addressing the gathering, European Union Ambassador to India Herve Delphin stressed the importance of working with trusted partners in an increasingly fragmented global environment.
He said India and Europe bring complementary strengths to the technology sector, with Europe offering expertise in innovation, advanced technologies and regulation, while India contributes scale, talent and dynamic technological applications.
Delphin said the Trade and Technology Council reflected a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and making full use of opportunities created by the free trade agreement.
MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said India and the EU shared a common vision for ensuring that technology serves people and contributes to sustainable growth.
“When we talk about trust in partnership, India and the EU stand on common ground, not just as allies, but as architects of a future where technology serves humanity, not the other way around,” he said.
Closing the event, Sibi George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, described the India-EU partnership as one characterised by predictability, credibility and strategic depth.
Officials said the outcomes of the forum would help shape the next phase of India-EU cooperation in digital technologies, trade and innovation, with businesses expected to play a central role in driving future collaboration.
