Panama FM due in India

Panama’s Foreign Minister Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez will arrive in India on July 19 for a five-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties…reports Asian Lite News Desk

Panama’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez, will undertake an official visit to India from July 19 to July 23, with a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Panamanian Foreign Minister will arrive in New Delhi on Sunday before beginning his official engagements the following day.

On Monday, Martinez-Acha is scheduled to meet Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at the New Parliament Building. He will later hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House, where discussions are expected to focus on enhancing diplomatic, economic and strategic cooperation.

The visiting minister will attend several engagements in the national capital on Tuesday before meeting Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Transport Bhavan on Wednesday. He is scheduled to depart India on Thursday, concluding his five-day visit.

The visit comes as India and Panama continue efforts to expand their bilateral partnership. Earlier this month, India’s Ambassador to Panama, Sumit Seth, met Martinez-Acha and discussed ways to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

In a post on X following the meeting, the Embassy of India in Panama said: “Ambassador Sumit Seth met the Foreign Minister of Panama, H.E Mr Javier Martínez-Acha, and presented him with the ceremonial India-Panama Flags Pin. They discussed how to further strengthen and deepening of India Panamá bilateral relationship.”

Panama has also expressed support for India on issues related to terrorism. Last year, Martinez-Acha publicly condemned terrorism and extended support to India during a reception hosted by Ambassador Sumit Seth for a visiting Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

The delegation visited Panama as part of India’s diplomatic outreach following the Pakistan-linked terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people. During the visit, the delegation outlined India’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism to leaders in the Central American nation, which currently serves as an elected member of the United Nations Security Council.

Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino Quintero also conveyed his support for India’s fight against terrorism during a meeting with the visiting parliamentary delegation.

The upcoming visit by Panama’s Foreign Minister is expected to build on recent diplomatic exchanges and provide fresh momentum to cooperation in areas including trade, investment, connectivity and maritime affairs.
