Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for stronger international solidarity and proposed the creation of an International Mobilisation Partnership for Accelerating Connectivity and Trade (IMPACT) to boost infrastructure and connectivity projects across the Global South.
Addressing the Outreach Session on “Reviving a Balanced, Shared and Sustainable Economic Growth for All” at the G7 Summit in Evian, PM Modi said developing nations continue to face the fallout of disruptions in fuel, fertiliser and food supply chains caused by the crisis in West Asia.
He stressed that the impact of these disruptions would continue to be felt across the Global South for a considerable period and urged the international community to ensure that vulnerable countries are not left to shoulder the burden alone.
“The disruptions in fuel, fertiliser and food supply chains caused by the crisis in West Asia will continue to impact the Global South for a considerable period. If we genuinely seek to strengthen international solidarity, the most vulnerable countries should not be left to bear the burden of these crises alone,” the Prime Minister said.
He called on international financial institutions to develop support mechanisms that would help developing countries absorb external shocks and maintain economic resilience.
Sharing details of his address on X, PM Modi said the French Presidency’s decision to focus on balanced and sustainable growth was timely.
“The reality today is – when it comes to growth, the question should not be about GDP or trade numbers. The real question is – Growth for whom, with whom and in what direction?” he said.
Highlighting India’s development journey, the Prime Minister described the country’s growth story as one built on inclusion, scale and democratic empowerment.
He said India’s approach is guided by the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” and has been reflected in initiatives such as India’s G20 Presidency and the launch of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
PM Modi also pointed to the demographic complementarities between ageing societies and younger nations in the Global South.
Noting that countries such as India possess abundant talent, entrepreneurship and skills, he proposed the creation of a Global Skills Partnership to facilitate skill mapping and trusted mobility of skilled workers across nations.
To further strengthen connectivity and economic integration, the Prime Minister proposed extending the spirit of IMEC to other regions.
“Like the vision of IMEC, can we work on connectivity projects with countries in Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands?” he asked.
He suggested that by combining G7 capital, India’s talent and the ownership of Global South nations, countries could establish an International Mobilisation Partnership for Accelerating Connectivity and Trade (IMPACT).
The proposed initiative, he said, could help accelerate infrastructure development, connectivity projects and trade linkages across developing regions.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi also held interactions with several world leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
The outreach session brought together leaders from G7 nations and partner countries to discuss ways to promote inclusive, sustainable and balanced economic growth amid ongoing global challenges.
