Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and discussed how India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is driving financial inclusion by making financial services more accessible, affordable and inclusive.
Queen Máxima, who is visiting India in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate (UNSGSA) for Financial Health, held discussions with the Prime Minister on India’s transformative digital ecosystem and its role in expanding access to financial services.
“Delighted to meet Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, who is also the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health and a long-standing global voice for financial inclusion,” PM Modi posted on X after the meeting.
He said the discussions focused on how India’s Digital Public Infrastructure-led transformation has improved access to financial services, enhanced affordability and strengthened the ‘Ease of Living’ for millions of people.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed India’s commitment to sharing its successful digital governance and financial inclusion model with partner countries across the world.
Queen Máxima arrived in India on Wednesday and was welcomed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which said her visit reflects the shared commitment of India and the United Nations towards advancing financial inclusion through innovative digital solutions.
According to the MEA, the visit builds on India’s experience in leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development.
During her engagements, Queen Máxima interacted with people from diverse backgrounds to understand their experiences with financial services and the challenges they face in achieving financial well-being.
She also met beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the government’s flagship financial inclusion programme that has enabled millions of households to access banking and other financial services.
The UNSGSA said insights from these interactions would help shape Queen Máxima’s discussions with policymakers, regulators and private-sector leaders during her India visit.
Prime Minister Modi had earlier met Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander during his visit to the Netherlands last month. On that occasion, he presented Queen Máxima with Meenakari and Kundan earrings, showcasing two of Rajasthan’s renowned traditional jewellery-making crafts.
