Vietnamese President To Lam will undertake a State visit to India from May 5 to 7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday.
To Lam, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will be making his first official visit to India since assuming office as President of Vietnam earlier this month.
According to the MEA, the Vietnamese leader will be accompanied by a high level delegation that includes ministers, senior government officials and representatives from the business community.
During the visit, President To Lam will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 6.
Prime Minister Modi and President To Lam are scheduled to hold extensive discussions covering the full range of bilateral ties, along with key regional and global developments of mutual interest.
President Droupadi Murmu is also expected to meet the visiting leader, while several other Indian dignitaries are likely to call on him during the visit.
Apart from official engagements in New Delhi, the Vietnamese President is also expected to travel to Bodh Gaya and Mumbai.
The MEA said the visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into the growing partnership between India and Vietnam and help expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi congratulated To Lam on his election as Vietnam’s President and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
In a message posted on X on April 7, Modi said he was confident that the longstanding friendship between India and Vietnam would continue to deepen under To Lam’s leadership.
India and Vietnam share strong historical and civilisational ties that have steadily expanded over the years. The visit also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was formalised during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016.
