Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday and emphasised the need for India and China to deepen cooperation, enhance mutual trust and maintain the positive momentum in bilateral relations.
During the meeting, Wang said China was ready to work with India to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, properly manage differences, address sensitive issues and expand mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors.
According to a statement shared by Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong on social media platform X, Wang stressed that India and China, as the world’s two largest developing countries and key members of the Global South, should play a leading role in promoting solidarity and self-reliance among developing nations.
“China is ready to work with India to implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries, continuously enhance trust and dispel doubts, properly handle sensitive issues, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, maintain the positive momentum of China-India relations, and jointly advance their respective modernisation processes,” the statement quoted Wang as saying.
He also reiterated China’s support for India in its role as the rotating chair of BRICS and expressed Beijing’s willingness to work closely with New Delhi to strengthen cooperation within the grouping.
The meeting came a day after Wang held talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting, where both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral ties and acknowledged progress towards gradual normalisation of relations.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Ambassador Xu Feihong and other senior officials attended the meeting between Modi and Wang.

According to the Chinese side, Wang said India and China should approach their relationship from both a long-term and global perspective, using cooperation to support their respective development goals and contribute to the modernisation of the Global South.
During his discussions with Doval, Wang also underscored the importance of respecting each other’s core interests and managing differences responsibly. He said the border issue should be placed in an appropriate context and should not be allowed to define the overall trajectory of bilateral relations.
The Chinese Foreign Minister further called for greater efforts to foster positive public perceptions and strengthen the social foundation for improving ties between the two neighbours.
The meeting is being viewed as part of ongoing efforts by both countries to stabilise relations and expand engagement through bilateral and multilateral platforms, including BRICS.
