China and Bangladesh pledge to deepen cooperation in trade, infrastructure and green development as Beijing says ties with Dhaka are not aimed at any “third party”…reports Asian Lite News
Wang Yi held talks with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman in Beijing on Wednesday, with both countries pledging to deepen cooperation in trade, infrastructure, green development and regional affairs.
During the meeting, Wang Yi said China’s ties with Bangladesh and other South Asian nations were not aimed at any “third party” and should not be influenced by outside actors.
According to a statement issued by the Chinese government, Beijing is prepared to align the “high quality Belt and Road Initiative” with Bangladesh’s national development strategy and expand cooperation across several sectors.
China also expressed willingness to deepen collaboration in traditional areas including trade, investment, infrastructure, water conservancy and cultural exchanges, while broadening engagement in green development and the digital economy.
Wang Yi said Beijing would support capable Chinese companies in investing and operating in Bangladesh as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
In a post on X, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian described China and Bangladesh as “good neighbours and good partners”.
“China supports the new Bangladeshi government in maintaining unity and stability, revitalising and developing the economy, and improving people’s wellbeing,” the post stated.
Addressing regional geopolitics, Wang Yi reiterated that China’s engagement with Bangladesh and other South Asian countries was not directed against any other nation.
China also expressed readiness to strengthen coordination with Bangladesh in multilateral institutions and regional cooperation frameworks to jointly contribute to regional peace and development.
Bangladesh, for its part, appreciated China’s long standing support and assistance and said it was looking forward to deepening “all round friendship and cooperation” while elevating the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries to a new level.
Dhaka also welcomed greater Chinese investment and pledged to provide a “stable, favourable and predictable” business environment for Chinese enterprises operating in Bangladesh.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern before issuing a joint statement outlining the outcomes of the talks.
