City’s situation has intensified the search for reinforcements in the January transfer window, even though Guehi is out of contract at the end of the season….reports Asian Lite News
Marc Guehi is reportedly relaxed about speculation linking him with a move from Crystal Palace to Manchester City, despite growing interest from the Premier League champions.
According to talkSPORT, the 25-year-old England centre-back has emerged as a leading target for City manager Pep Guardiola as the club deals with a mounting defensive injury crisis. Ruben Dias is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks, while Josko Gvardiol could miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken leg. John Stones is also unavailable, leaving Guardiola short of senior defensive options.
City’s situation has intensified the search for reinforcements in the January transfer window, even though Guehi is out of contract at the end of the season. Palace are conscious of the risk of losing their captain on a free transfer in June, a factor that could influence their stance if a suitable offer arrives.

Speaking to reporters, Palace manager Oliver Glasner addressed the broader issue of player ambition and squad balance. He suggested that clarity between club and player is essential, arguing that situations where expectations no longer align rarely work for either side.
Guehi joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 after impressing during a loan spell at Swansea City and has since developed into one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders. He is understood to be content to remain at Selhurst Park for the rest of the campaign, with sources close to the player indicating that regular playing time is a key priority.
That continuity is believed to be important for Guehi as he looks to cement his place in England’s long-term plans ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Under Glasner, he remains a central figure in Palace’s defence and one of the club’s leaders on and off the pitch.
However, Glasner acknowledged that City’s interest could quickly alter the situation. He admitted that a significant bid, combined with Guehi’s willingness to move, would be difficult for Palace to resist, particularly given the contract situation.
Palace are thought to be open to a mid-season sale if their valuation is met, although that figure remains a sticking point. Liverpool came close to signing Guehi on deadline day last summer, while Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all tracked his progress. From this month, overseas clubs are able to negotiate pre-contract agreements.
Reports suggest City may be prepared to pay a reduced January fee to secure Guehi immediately, potentially moving ahead of domestic rivals. Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring developments but are not believed to be willing to meet Palace’s demands during this transfer window.
