Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, has cast serious doubt on Pakistan’s claims of retaliation following India’s Operation Sindoor, suggesting that Pakistan’s response implicitly acknowledges its ties with terror groups targeted in the Indian strike.
Speaking to Sky News anchor Yalda Hakim, Doraiswami stated, “If Pakistan says it’s retaliating… what exactly are they retaliating against? Against strikes on terrorist infrastructure? That in itself raises questions about their relationship with those groups.”
He highlighted that India’s response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam — which killed 26 civilians — was carefully measured, precise, and aimed solely at eliminating terrorist infrastructure. The High Commissioner clarified that India deliberately avoided striking Pakistan’s military assets or national infrastructure to prevent military escalation.
“We did not strike Pakistan’s military establishment or any national infrastructure. Our response was targeted and restrained. The intention was clear: avoid military escalation,” he said. Doraiswami added that Pakistan’s own official statements — noting no violation of airspace or damage to military assets — indirectly confirmed this approach.
He further underscored that the imagery released by Pakistan following the Indian strikes showed locations long identified as hubs of terrorist operations linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. “These are not random locations. These sites are well-documented centers of terror infrastructure,” he stated.
On Pakistan’s claims of downing Indian fighter jets, Doraiswami questioned their credibility, pointing out the reliance on unverifiable social media footage. “When the [Pakistani] Defence Minister says the evidence is on social media, by that logic, Indian media has also reported the downing of two Chinese-made jets and an F-16 today,” he remarked.
He also slammed Pakistan for missing an opportunity to de-escalate by using these claims as a diplomatic “off-ramp,” instead choosing further escalation.

He further noted that the current hostilities could cease entirely if Pakistan simply refrains from targeting Indian military installations.
Drawing a broader comparison, Doraiswami referenced the 2008 Mumbai attacks, alleging that Pakistan failed to act on credible evidence provided by India and the international community. “All that information was used not to cooperate but to cover their tracks and protect what appear to be assets of their deep state,” he concluded.
