Trump Halts Iran Strike, Awaits Deal

Donald Trump said the US has cancelled a planned military strike on Iran after what he described as progress towards a potential agreement with Tehran…reports Asian Lite News Desk

US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States has cancelled a planned military strike on Iran after what he described as progress towards a potential agreement with Tehran, while stressing that the decision remains conditional on Iran rapidly concluding a deal. He also said Israel had joined Washington in supporting the move.

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump said the United States had been urged by Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to suspend military action because the “perimeters of a deal has been agreed to”.

According to Trump, the proposed agreement would require Iran to immediately and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, and end what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat.

“The USA is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II. Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to. This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat,” Trump wrote.

“Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL. The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment.”

Trump concluded his statement by urging negotiators to move quickly, writing: “Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE.”

The announcement represents a temporary easing of tensions following weeks of heightened military rhetoric between Washington and Tehran. However, there has been no official confirmation from Iran that it has agreed to the framework outlined by Trump.

Earlier on Saturday, Iran warned the United States against any military action, saying it would respond decisively to any fresh strikes on Iranian territory. The warning came after Trump said on Friday that he was losing confidence in negotiations and threatened further military action if necessary, saying the US would be “hitting them”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to his Telegram account, told Pakistani and Turkish officials that Tehran would respond firmly to any “aggression”. He also discussed what he described as destabilising actions by the United States and the growing risk of wider regional instability.

Trump’s assertion that Israel supports the proposed pause marks a notable diplomatic development, although Israeli authorities have not publicly commented on the announcement.

The diplomatic developments came as concerns continued to grow within the US military over the strain the conflict has placed on American missile defence capabilities.

The Washington Post reported that the commander of US European Command, General Alexus Grynkewich, recently informed Pentagon officials that the United States does not have sufficient naval assets to continue intercepting Iranian ballistic missiles targeting Israel indefinitely. The report said months of operations in the Middle East have significantly reduced US stocks of advanced interceptor missiles.

Despite Trump’s announcement, uncertainty remains over whether the proposed agreement will materialise, with Tehran yet to publicly endorse the reported framework. Any lasting de-escalation is expected to depend on whether negotiations can produce a formal agreement acceptable to both sides.
