India and Thailand have discussed strengthening cooperation in digital technologies, including efforts to combat online scams and improve digital integration for tourists.

Indian Ambassador to Thailand Puneet Agrawal met Thailand’s Minister of Digital Economy and Society Chaichanok Chidchob on Monday for discussions on enhancing bilateral collaboration in the digital sector.

“Ambassador Puneet Agrawal paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand, today,” the Indian Embassy in Thailand said in a post on X.

The two sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation under the existing bilateral agreement on digital technologies, sharing experiences in combating online scams and integrating digital ecosystems to facilitate tourists, among other issues, the embassy said.

The discussions come as India and Thailand continue to expand their strategic partnership across areas including technology, connectivity, trade, investment and tourism.

Last month, Agrawal met Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phipat Ratchakitprakarn to discuss measures to strengthen the strategic partnership through improved maritime, air and road connectivity.

The meeting also focused on deepening people-to-people ties and strengthening tourism linkages between the two countries.

India and Thailand elevated their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangkok in April last year.

The two countries have since continued high-level engagements aimed at expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

On July 16, Agrawal met Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs at Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Indian Embassy said the discussions covered issues of mutual interest, including high-level visits, trade and investment, people-to-people connections, public health and traditional medicine.

“Ambassador Puneet Agrawal met Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin, DG of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both sides exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest such as high-level visits, trade and investment, people-to-people connect, public health and traditional medicine, etc to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership between India and Thailand.”

Agrawal also held talks with Thailand Trade Representative Chutintorn Gongsakdi at the Government House, focusing on ways to further strengthen trade and investment ties between India and Thailand.

“Ambassador Puneet Agrawal had a cordial and fruitful meeting with H.E Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Thailand Trade Representative, at the Government House. Discussions focused on further strengthening trade and investment ties between India and Thailand through identifying areas of complementarities, resolving tariff and non-tariff barriers and having a balanced trade for mutual benefit,” the Indian Embassy said on X.

The latest discussions highlight the expanding scope of India-Thailand cooperation, with digital technology and efforts against online scams emerging alongside traditional areas such as trade, connectivity and tourism.
