Creator-led discovery and algorithmic feeds turned inspiration into instant purchases, demonstrating how entertainment and commerce are now inseparably intertwined
Flipkart, India’s homegrown e commerce marketplace, has unveiled its annual insights report, #FlipTrends2025, spotlighting the most transformative shifts in the nation’s digital economy. The report underscores how Gen Z’s scroll-led discovery, Tier 2 cities’ premiumisation, and the mainstreaming of video shopping and quick commerce are redefining Indian online shopping.
Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart, said, “The insights from #FlipTrends2025 tell the story of a confident digital nation. Shopping became muscle memory, Gen Z turned viral scrolls into instant trends, and Tier 2 cities led the charge in premiumisation. Video shopping and quick commerce have moved from novelties to daily habits, showing that India is now defining the global playbook for digital consumption.”
Gen Z Shapes Trends Overnight
2025 marked a year when Gen Z not only consumed content but translated it into commerce. A single viral Y2K reel sparked over 21 lakh searches on Flipkart, rapidly driving demand for Korean-inspired fashion such as crop tops, oversized hoodies, and baggy jeans. Unusual products, including mouth tape for sleeping, also became top-saved items. Gaming emerged as the dominant habit, with 58% of purchases coming from the 15 24 age group, particularly in Delhi and Kolkata, while Tier 2+ cities saw this rise to 60%. In metros like Mumbai and Hyderabad, shoppers aged 25 34 led gaming purchases, with headsets accounting for 85% of all gaming accessory sales.

Quick Commerce Becomes Reflexive
Flipkart Minutes, the platform’s quick commerce service, became a staple in daily life. From ₹9 fruits and vegetables to groceries and snacks, consumers increasingly used the service for “I need this now” moments. Post-7 PM orders spiked across vegetables, milk, ice-creams, chips, chocolates, and indulgent items like cashews and health drink mixes, reflecting an intuitive, almost reflexive approach to quick commerce. Midnight shopping trends show that convenience, speed, and experimentation have become embedded in consumer behavior across metros and emerging cities.
Tier 2 and 3 Cities Lead Premiumisation
Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets such as Bardhaman, Cuttack, East Godavari, Krishna, and Medinipur powered Flipkart’s strongest growth, driving demand for high-value categories ranging from face serums to dishwashers and electric bikes. Fashion remained central, with accessories and personal care products gaining traction among younger buyers. Content creation also expanded beyond metros, with home-based setups spurring microphone and tech accessory purchases. These markets are no longer catching up; they are leading the growth curve.
