Actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has shared a thoughtful message on embracing singleness, calling it a “sacred assignment” rather than a burden. The Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin star posted a photo on Instagram, where soft shadows played across her face, and used the caption to reflect on how society often misinterprets singlehood. “Singleness is not a curse. It is a sacred assignment,” she wrote.
Pooja, who made her acting debut in the 1989 television film Daddy, rose to fame with her breakout performance in the blockbuster romantic comedy Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin. Through the 1990s, she earned critical acclaim for her roles in Sadak, Junoon, Naraaz, Angrakshak, Chaahat, Tamanna, Border, Angaaray and Zakhm, before taking a break from mainstream acting.
Her most recent appearance was in the 2024 English-language coming-of-age series Big Girls Don’t Cry, created by Nitya Mehra and executive produced by Sudhanshu Saria. The series features an ensemble cast including Mukul Chadda, Raima Sen, Zoya Hussain, Avantika, Tenzin Lhakyila, Aneet Padda, Dalai, Vidushi and Afrah Sayed.

Looking ahead, Pooja is set to take on a new role as Jitendra Kumar’s mother in a film centred on India’s pigeon-flying culture — a traditional practice involving the training of homing pigeons, still alive in several Indian communities and global racing circuits. The project also reunites Jitendra with co-producer Hitesh Kewalya, known for his work on Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Filming for the yet-untitled feature is slated to begin next year, with Khyati Madaan producing under the Not Out Entertainment banner.
