Delhi Fashion Week Transforms India

Delhi Fashion Week 2025 – Season 1 arrived with a sense of triumph, purpose and cultural pride, marking the culmination of a decade-long vision and five years of anticipation for its official trademark registration. Held at the YMCA Tourist Hotel in Connaught Place, the much-awaited launch brought together India’s creative forces under one powerful narrative: celebrating culture, sustainability and women’s empowerment.

Organised by Delhi Fashion Club in association with VOY Media & Events, the showcase received strong backing from national institutions including the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, and the NIFT Foundation for Design Innovation (NFDI). Meghalaya Tourism further elevated the event, highlighting Northeast India’s rising presence in the country’s design ecosystem.

At the heart of this edition was the theme “Naari Shakti: Weaving Viksit Bharat,” a message that resonated strongly through every show, showcase and artistic direction. Celebrity Fashion Director Harshit Dhingaun, Founder and Chairman of Delhi Fashion Club, curated the event with a vision shaped by 18 years of industry experience. Known to digital audiences as THEVOY, with more than 300,000 YouTube subscribers, Harshit has long dreamt of a platform that democratises opportunities in Indian fashion. For him, Delhi Fashion Week is not just a spectacle — it is a creative revolution enabling young designers, aspiring models and startups to find meaningful visibility at affordable costs.

One of the major highlights was Harshit’s announcement of the International Delhi Fashion Awards (IDFA), recognising over 30 designers, influencers, artisans, NGOs and cultural change-makers for their contributions to India’s creative landscape.

The opening ceremony welcomed respected dignitaries such as Chief Guest Miss Sabrella Marak (MCS), Additional Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House; Sarita Duhan, Executive Director, FDDI Rohtak; Prashant Kumar, Director of Publicity, FDDI; and senior representatives of Meghalaya Tourism. Delhi Police officer and women’s safety champion Mrs Kiren Sethi, popularly known as Lady Singham, added gravitas to the gathering.

Meghalaya’s vibrant cultural artistry took centre stage through the works of Iaishah Rymbai (Eri Weave), designer Batkystlin Mawtoh, and Garo weaver Lakme Marak supported by designer Ernieford. Their Eri Silk and Mulberry Silk collections invited audiences into the soulful weaving legacy of the Northeast.

The inaugural Delhi Fashion Summit – Season 1 further deepened the event’s purpose, bringing together artisans, entrepreneurs and cultural leaders for thoughtful discussions on sustainability, handloom innovation, tribal weaving traditions and women’s empowerment. Stories shared by rural weavers from Meghalaya offered emotional insight into how handloom crafts continue to uplift communities.

In a stirring display of inclusivity, the FDDI Naari Shakti Show honoured women from diverse age groups, while Kamari by Kajal Verma introduced elegance with her shimmering gown line. Another crowd favourite was the Viksit Bharat Sutra – Khadi Showcase led by Celebrity Designer Rosy Ahluwalia, followed by FDDI’s contemporary fusion take on Khadi.

A standout segment of the evening was the International Reinvent Northeast Showcase, featuring Bodoland’s handloom brilliance by Anita Daimari and Laijou Brahma. Authentic Bodo motifs, rich patterns and striking silhouettes paid homage to Bodoland’s textile identity. This was followed by the Meghalaya Grand Showcase, sponsored by Meghalaya Tourism, featuring live music by the SKUBO Band and a three-part runway sequence led by Garo, Khasi and Jaintia designers. International Fitness Icon Annu Marbaniang closed the segment in a show-stopping moment.

The Pre-Finale saw dramatic couture by Celebrity Designer Ashfaque Ahmad, while the Grand Finale by NFDI’s Bhasha Bharat initiative unveiled luxurious Bhagalpur Silk Sarees with Mrs Universe Oceania 2025, Archana Niranjan, as the showstopper.

Closing the landmark evening, Harshit reaffirmed Delhi Fashion Week’s mission: strengthening handloom traditions, empowering artisans and women creators, and building a future-ready Indian fashion economy aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat.

Season 2 is set for March 2026, with registrations opening on 18 December 2025.
