‘Walking for Something More Than Fashion’

Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt brought star power to the Mijwan fundraiser, celebrating 15 years of fashion and rural craftsmanship

Bollywood stars Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt took centre stage at the 15th-anniversary edition of the Mijwan Fundraiser Fashion Show in Mumbai, combining runway glamour with a celebration of traditional craftsmanship.

The actors walked as showstoppers for designer Manish Malhotra at the charity showcase, titled ‘Ticket to Bollywood’, which celebrated 15 years of collaboration between Malhotra and the Mijwan Welfare Society.

Sharing photographs from the event on Instagram, Vicky described the runway appearance as a particularly meaningful experience.“Walking for something that has always stood for so much more than fashion,” he wrote.Reflecting on sharing the runway with Alia, he added, “And sharing this walk with @aliaabhatt made it even more special. We have walked the runway as Showstoppers, but the real stars are the girls whose dreams are being given wings.”

Vicky also thanked Malhotra, actor Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal for bringing the stars together for the initiative.Alia marked the occasion by celebrating Mijwan’s 15-year journey and the artisans supported through the initiative.

“15 years of Mijwan… what an incredibly powerful and meaningful journey,” she wrote, congratulating Azmi and Malhotra for providing artisans with a platform to showcase their work.She also shared a playful message for Vicky, writing, “And @vickykaushal09… always fun when you’re around.”

The fashion showcase highlighted the work of rural women and young artisans from Uttar Pradesh, with traditional chikankari embroidery at the heart of the initiative.

Alia appeared in an ivory embroidered ensemble featuring a sheer dupatta decorated with delicate white floral work, paired with a matching corset blouse and skirt. She completed the look with a statement kundan choker, maang tikka and traditional wrist accessories.

Vicky opted for a deep royal blue velvet sherwani jacket featuring intricate white floral zardozi embroidery. He paired it with a white kurta and tailored white trousers.The pair later walked together, bringing an added sense of camaraderie to the runway.

The event also offered a preview of the on-screen pairing audiences can expect from Alia and Vicky, who are set to appear alongside Ranbir Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film ‘Love and War’.

Beyond the glamour, the Mijwan fundraiser continues to spotlight traditional Indian craftsmanship while supporting opportunities for women and young artisans in rural Uttar Pradesh.
