Redbridge Council has announced that all nine of its Green Flag parks have once again retained their prestigious national awards, reaffirming the borough’s reputation for maintaining high-quality green spaces.
The Green Flag Award is an internationally recognised benchmark for parks and green spaces, awarded to sites that are welcoming, well maintained, safe and valued by their communities. The annual recognition celebrates excellence in the management and upkeep of public parks across the country.
The nine Redbridge parks that have retained Green Flag status are Claybury Park, Clayhall Park, Elmhurst Gardens, Goodmayes Park, Hainault Forest, Ilford War Memorial Gardens, Seven Kings Park, South Park and Valentines Park.
The latest achievement reflects the continued work of council parks staff, community volunteers and local groups who contribute to the care and improvement of these popular outdoor spaces throughout the year.
Redbridge Council said ongoing investment has helped enhance the borough’s parks and improve facilities for residents and visitors. Recent projects have focused on increasing accessibility and encouraging more people to make use of local green spaces.
Hainault Forest has undergone a major restoration project, while Valentines Park continues to attract visitors with its boating lake, sports facilities, gardens and historic mansion. The park also recently hosted filming for The Antiques Roadshow.
Across Redbridge, refurbished sports courts, upgraded play areas and improved facilities have been introduced to support outdoor activities and recreation. Improved toilet facilities in several parks have also been designed to encourage visitors to spend more time enjoying the spaces.
Councillor Kam Rai, Leader of Redbridge Council, welcomed the latest recognition.
He said: “I’m really proud that all nine of our Green Flag parks have once again received this nationally recognised award. It reflects the hard work and dedication of our parks teams, community volunteers and local groups who care deeply about these spaces and help them thrive.
“Our parks are at the heart of community life in Redbridge. With the summer holidays here, I hope residents make the most of everything our parks have to offer. There are fantastic places to play sport, enjoy community events, spend time with family and friends, and make the most of the outdoors. We are incredibly fortunate to have these award-winning green spaces on our doorstep, and this recognition is something everyone in Redbridge can be proud of and enjoy.”
The announcement follows further national recognition for Hainault Forest and Valentines Park, which were named among the top ten parks in the country in the People’s Choice Awards.
Redbridge Council said its award-winning parks also support its wider ambitions as a UNICEF UK Child Friendly Borough. The borough has committed to creating environments that enable children and young people to thrive, with parks playing an important role in providing safe and accessible places for play, physical activity and social interaction.
The continued Green Flag success highlights the importance of well-maintained public green spaces in supporting community wellbeing, encouraging active lifestyles and enhancing the quality of life for residents across the borough.
