Aditi Reinvents Saree Aesthetic

At Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI 2026, Aditi Rao Hydari delivered a captivating runway moment, stepping beyond her role as showstopper to debut as Co-Creative Director for Satya Paul. The showcase marked a significant creative milestone, blending her personal aesthetic with the label’s iconic design language.

Presented as the Satya Paul x Aditi Rao Hydari capsule collection, the line explored fashion designed for the rhythm of contemporary life. Rooted in versatility, the collection moved fluidly across silhouettes—offering pieces that transition seamlessly from day to evening, work to occasion. It reflected a modern wardrobe that embraces both function and expression.

Signature to Satya Paul’s legacy, the collection leaned into bold colour stories and striking prints. Motifs such as dragonflies, florals and abstract patterns appeared across garments, brought to life through intricate surface detailing and subtle embellishments. These elements added visual intrigue while maintaining an effortless, wearable appeal.

The collection’s strength lay in its interplay of tradition and modernity. Classic saree drapes were reimagined alongside contemporary silhouettes, creating a dynamic fashion narrative. Layering played a key role, with sheer bomber jackets and fluid trench coats adding depth and structure. This fusion introduced a fresh perspective on Indian wear—one that feels relevant to evolving lifestyles.

For Hydari, the collaboration was deeply personal. She described the process as an exploration of art, colour and storytelling, translated into designs that feel instinctive and authentic. Her vision centred on creating garments that are both playful and empowering, where femininity coexists with strength and individuality.

Working alongside designers David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore, she reimagined the saree as a canvas for self-expression—bridging heritage with contemporary sensibilities. The result was a collection that felt both expressive and relatable.

Her runway appearance brought the narrative full circle, embodying the spirit of the collection—soft yet strong, fluid yet defined. As Lakme Fashion Week drew attention to evolving fashion identities, this collaboration stood out as a celebration of creativity, individuality and the enduring relevance of the saree in modern wardrobes.
