Dhaka says planned E1 construction violates international law and threatens Palestinian statehood…reports Asian Lite News Desk
Bangladesh has strongly condemned Israel’s plan to advance settlement construction in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank, saying the move violates international law and threatens prospects for a two-state solution.
In a statement, Bangladesh said the planned settlement activities were contrary to international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
It warned that further settlement construction would undermine the territorial integrity of the occupied Palestinian territory and weaken prospects for establishing a viable Palestinian state alongside Israel.
Bangladesh called on Israel to immediately halt all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory and reaffirmed its support for what it described as the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
Dhaka reiterated its backing for an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Bangladesh also urged the international community to step up diplomatic efforts to prevent actions that could undermine Palestinian statehood and to promote a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East.
It said such efforts should be grounded in international law and the two-state solution.
“Bangladesh stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine,” the statement said, reaffirming the country’s commitment to supporting Palestinian aspirations for freedom, dignity, justice and statehood.
