Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in New Delhi for the BRICS Summit as India and China seek constructive talks and closer communication, reports Asian Lite News Desk
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday for the 18th BRICS Summit, beginning his first visit to India in nearly seven years as both countries seek to stabilise bilateral ties.
Xi was received at the airport by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada. India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it was looking forward to “constructive discussions” with the Chinese leader during his visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Xi are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit, with the talks expected to focus on the broader direction of India-China relations.
The visit comes after years of tensions following the deadly Galwan clashes in 2020. New Delhi has repeatedly stressed that peace and tranquillity along the border are essential for the continued development of bilateral relations.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said Beijing and New Delhi were making arrangements for the meeting and would work to implement the strategic guidance provided by Modi and Xi.
Xi’s delegation includes senior Chinese officials, including Politburo Standing Committee member Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The Chinese President’s visit comes as India hosts the two-day BRICS summit in New Delhi. As the 2026 BRICS chair, India is seeking stronger cooperation among member and partner countries on resilience, innovation, sustainability and economic development.
The summit will also address major global and regional issues, providing Modi and Xi an opportunity to maintain high-level communication while managing differences between the two countries.
