Explosions rocked parts of Dubai late on Friday night after Iran launched retaliatory strikes across the Gulf, with dramatic footage circulating online appearing to show smoke rising near the vicinity of the Burj Khalifa.
Unverified videos shared on social media showed black smoke billowing into the sky near the world’s tallest tower, prompting speculation that the landmark may have been targeted. Iranian drones were reportedly detected in the area shortly before the explosions were heard. However, there has been no official confirmation that the Burj Khalifa itself was struck or damaged.
Authorities moved swiftly to calm public concern as tensions across the region escalated following joint US and Israeli strikes on Tehran earlier this week.
Palm Jumeirah Incident Confirmed
In a statement, the Dubai Media Office confirmed that an incident occurred in a building in the Palm Jumeirah area. Emergency services were immediately dispatched, and the site was secured.
Dubai Civil Defence confirmed that a resulting fire had been brought under control. Four individuals sustained injuries and were transferred to medical facilities for treatment. Officials stressed that the safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors remain the highest priority.
Authorities urged the public to remain calm, rely only on verified information from official sources, and refrain from circulating unverified videos or images online.
While footage suggested explosions were heard across multiple parts of the city, it remains unclear whether the Palm Jumeirah incident was directly linked to Iranian strikes or caused by falling debris from intercepted aerial threats.
Flights Suspended as Precaution
Amid heightened security concerns, Dubai Airports announced the suspension of all flight operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) until further notice.
Passengers have been advised not to travel to the airport and to contact airlines directly for updated flight information. Airport authorities said the move was precautionary as officials continue to monitor developments.
The temporary suspension underscores the seriousness of the regional escalation, as Gulf states remain on high alert following Iranian missile and drone activity.
Wider Regional Strikes
Iranian state-linked outlets claimed retaliatory attacks targeting locations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE, as well as Doha in Qatar and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Earlier, Qatari and Emirati authorities confirmed interceptions of aerial threats, while Kuwait also temporarily closed its airspace as a precaution.
Security analysts say the latest developments mark one of the most dangerous escalations in the Gulf in years, raising fears of a broader regional confrontation.
