The UAE Ministry of Defense has confirmed that the United Arab Emirates was subjected to what it described as a “blatant attack” involving Iranian ballistic missiles, marking a dramatic escalation in the widening regional conflict.
According to the Ministry, UAE air defence systems intercepted a number of incoming missiles with “high efficiency”. However, debris from intercepted projectiles fell in a residential area, causing material damage and resulting in the death of one civilian of Asian nationality. Authorities did not disclose the precise location of the impact but said emergency services responded immediately.
Officials stressed that the overall security situation across the UAE remains stable, with all concerned entities monitoring developments around the clock. The Ministry condemned the strike in the strongest terms, describing it as a dangerous escalation and a direct violation of national sovereignty and international law.
“The targeting of civilian objects, facilities and national institutions is categorically rejected,” the Ministry said, adding that the UAE reserves the full right to respond and take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, citizens and residents.
The statement underscored that the country remains fully prepared to deal with any additional threats. Authorities also urged the public to rely solely on official sources for updates and to refrain from circulating rumours or unverified information.
The attack comes amid intensifying regional hostilities following Israeli and US strikes on Iran, which have triggered retaliatory actions across parts of the Middle East, raising fears of a broader confrontation that could engulf Gulf states hosting Western military facilities.
Qatar intercepts incoming threats
In neighbouring Qatar, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced that it had successfully intercepted a number of attacks targeting Qatari territory.
A statement carried by the Qatar News Agency said the threats were neutralised immediately upon detection in accordance with pre-established security plans. All missiles were intercepted before reaching Qatari territory, the Ministry confirmed.
Officials emphasised that the Qatari Armed Forces possess full capabilities to protect national security and respond decisively to external threats. The security situation, they added, remains stable and fully under control.
Qatar hosts significant Western military infrastructure, including Al Udeid Air Base, making it a strategically sensitive location amid heightened regional tensions.
Kuwait closes airspace, activates air defences
Meanwhile, Kuwait moved swiftly to bolster aviation and military preparedness. The Kuwaiti Public Authority for Civil Aviation announced the temporary closure of the country’s airspace due to political and security developments in the region.
“This is a precautionary decision aimed at preserving safety and security of passengers, airlines and operations at Kuwait International Airport from any possible dangers,” spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi told the Kuwait News Agency.
Separately, Kuwait’s General Staff of the Army confirmed that air defence systems had engaged aerial missiles detected in Kuwaiti airspace in accordance with approved operational procedures and rules of engagement. No casualties or damage were immediately reported.
