Indian diplomatic missions across the world marked the 12th International Day of Yoga with large scale events that brought together people from diverse backgrounds, underscoring yoga’s role in promoting health, wellness and harmony.

Celebrated this year under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, the International Day of Yoga highlighted the benefits of yoga in supporting healthier, more active and fulfilling lives for people of all ages.

Among the notable celebrations, pilgrims of the first batch of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra observed Yoga Day at Lhatse in Tibet Autonomous Region, combining spirituality and wellness in one of the world’s most revered pilgrimage routes.

Sharing highlights of the event, the Embassy of India in Beijing said yoga continues to reflect values of mindfulness, balance and harmony with nature that resonate strongly among people in both India and China.

In Peru, the Embassy of India in Lima organised a special yoga session at Lake Titicaca, regarded as the world’s highest navigable lake. Participants gathered in near freezing temperatures of around 3°C to welcome the sunrise amid the scenic Peruvian Andes.

According to the embassy, the event offered an opportunity for participants to experience peace, harmony and a deeper connection with nature in a unique setting.

In Algeria, more than 400 people took part in Yoga Day celebrations at the Jardin d’Essai du Hamma in the capital, Algiers. The event drew participants from various communities and backgrounds, showcasing the widespread appeal of yoga.

Addressing the gathering, Indian Ambassador to Algeria Swati V. Kulkarni thanked participants for their enthusiastic involvement and encouraged them to make yoga a part of their daily routine.

Meanwhile, celebrations in Guinea Bissau brought together people of all age groups in a shared spirit of wellness and unity. The programme was attended by senior government officials, including Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports Juelma Cubala and Minister of Commerce and Industry Jaimentino Co, along with members of the diplomatic community.

In Lebanon, the Embassy of India in Beirut organised a major event promoting the theme of healthy ageing through yoga. The programme featured addresses by Indian Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh, Lebanon’s Tourism Minister Laura Lahoud and parliamentarian Fadi Alameh, followed by a yoga session led by seven instructors.

The worldwide celebrations reflected yoga’s growing international reach and reinforced its message of physical well-being, mental balance and social harmony.
