Saudi Arabia says Houthi attacks injured 73 people and struck civilian, economic and energy infrastructure, prompting warnings of stronger measures against the group, reports Asian Lite News Desk
At least 73 people, including women and children, have been injured in a series of Houthi attacks targeting towns and cities across southern Saudi Arabia, according to a Saudi military spokesman.
Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, said the attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran.
He described the escalation as “dangerous” and accused the Iran-backed Houthi movement of pursuing a “hostile and irresponsible” approach towards the Kingdom.
Al-Maliki said the attacks deliberately targeted national infrastructure and civilian facilities, describing them as a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a direct threat to citizens and residents.
He warned that coalition forces would take “all necessary operational measures” to deter further attacks and neutralise the threat.
Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry separately said several energy-sector facilities and infrastructure in the southern region had also been targeted. The attacks sparked fires and temporarily halted some operations, although authorities had begun dealing with the damage and restoring affected facilities.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks and said the Kingdom would not tolerate strikes against its territory or resources.
It also called on the Houthis to end their escalation and threats to maritime security, while warning against attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Saudi authorities said they reserved the right to take necessary measures to defend the Kingdom’s sovereignty and security.
