India and China have discussed ways to deepen cooperation in trade, economic engagement and people-to-people exchanges, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing stable and mutually beneficial bilateral relations.
The discussions took place during an introductory meeting between India’s Ambassador to China, Vikram Doraiswami, and China’s Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying on Monday.
According to the Embassy of India in China, the two sides agreed to intensify efforts to implement the vision laid out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping for a stable relationship that delivers tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
In a post on X, the Embassy said the meeting focused on expanding cooperation in trade, the economy and people-to-people exchanges while reviewing the broader trajectory of bilateral ties.
The Embassy also said Ambassador Doraiswami welcomed Hua’s assurance of China’s support for India’s upcoming BRICS Presidency.
The meeting comes amid continued efforts by New Delhi and Beijing to stabilise and improve relations following recent high-level diplomatic engagements.
Last month, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries.
During the meeting, Wang said China was ready to work with India to strengthen mutual trust, address differences through dialogue, properly manage sensitive issues and deepen practical cooperation across multiple sectors.
He also emphasised the role of India and China as the world’s two largest developing countries, saying both nations should work together to promote solidarity and self-reliance among countries of the Global South.
Following the meeting, China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said Beijing would continue to support India in its role as the rotating Chair of BRICS and work closely with New Delhi to advance cooperation within the grouping.
According to Xu, China is prepared to enhance trust, dispel misunderstandings, maintain the positive momentum in bilateral ties and jointly pursue modernisation in line with the interests of both countries and the broader international community.
Wang Yi also held talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting in New Delhi.
During those discussions, both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and acknowledged the gradual progress being made towards the normalisation of ties.
The latest diplomatic engagement reflects ongoing efforts by India and China to broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest while maintaining dialogue on issues affecting bilateral relations.
