External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday met Bahrain’s Deputy Prime Minister Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors and exchange views on regional developments.
The meeting came during Jaishankar’s official visit to Bahrain, the second stop of his six-nation diplomatic tour covering Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, the United States and Brussels.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar said the discussions focused on advancing the partnership between the two countries.
“A pleasure to meet Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain H.E Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa this morning. Discussed taking forward our bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Also exchanged views on the regional situation,” he posted on X.
On Monday, Jaishankar called on Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and conveyed personal greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The External Affairs Minister thanked the Bahraini monarch for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community living in the Gulf nation and reaffirmed India’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
“Honoured to have an audience with HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. Also privileged to meet HRH Crown Prince and PM Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa at the audience. Conveyed warm personal greetings of President Droupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi. Deeply value His Majesty’s continued guidance for advancing the India-Bahrain partnership. Thanked him for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian diaspora in Bahrain,” Jaishankar posted on X.
During his visit, the minister also interacted with members of the Indian community in Bahrain, acknowledging their contribution to the country’s development and their role in strengthening ties between the two nations.
“Pleased to interact with members of Indian community in Bahrain. They have made deep contributions to the Bahraini society and have served as a living bridge between India and Bahrain. Listened to their experiences and suggestions for deepening India-Bahrain partnership,” he wrote on X.
Jaishankar also held talks with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani on Monday, during which the two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed ongoing developments in the region.
“Delighted to meet FM Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani of Bahrain in Manama today. Expressed deep appreciation for ensuring the well-being of the Indian community. Discussed deepening our bilateral cooperation. Exchanged views on ongoing developments in the region,” Jaishankar said.
The Bahrain visit follows Jaishankar’s engagements in Qatar, where he met Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and interacted with representatives of the Indian community.
His ongoing six-nation tour is aimed at reinforcing India’s diplomatic outreach and expanding cooperation with key international partners across political, economic and strategic sectors.
After completing his engagements in Bahrain, Jaishankar is scheduled to visit Kuwait, Oman, the United States and Brussels as part of the multi-country visit.
