Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has welcomed Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to Kyiv for what he described as the first dedicated bilateral visit by an Indian foreign minister to Ukraine.
Sybiha said the visit came at a critical time as Ukraine faces escalating Russian attacks on its cities, port infrastructure and civilian shipping.
“India is a global power and we welcome Prime Minister Modi’s call to move from an endless war towards an end to the war,” Sybiha said, adding that Ukraine remained ready for diplomacy.
During their talks, the two ministers discussed efforts to restore freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and strengthen global food security, according to Sybiha.
The discussions also focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, technology, innovation and digitalisation.
Sybiha said the two sides agreed to work towards convening the next meeting of the India-Ukraine intergovernmental commission, with the aim of translating bilateral opportunities into concrete projects.
He thanked Jaishankar for undertaking the visit despite continuing attacks on Kyiv, describing it as a significant moment in relations between India and Ukraine.
