Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sudarshini has set sail for New York to participate in the SAIL4th 250 New York and SAIL Boston events, reinforcing India’s commitment to maritime cooperation and showcasing its rich seafaring heritage.
Announcing the departure on X, the Indian Navy said the tall ship was carrying forward India’s longstanding maritime traditions while strengthening ties with partner nations.
“‘Next stop New York!’ Lokayan26 – Strengthening Maritime Ties. Carrying forward the timeless spirit of seafaring and India’s rich maritime heritage, INS Sudarshini has set course towards New York to participate in the SAIL4th 250 New York and SAIL Boston events, reaffirming India’s enduring commitment to maritime friendship, cooperation, goodwill and mutual trust among nations,” the Navy said.
Before departing for New York, INS Sudarshini concluded a series of high-profile engagements during its port call at Baltimore under the Sail250 Maryland celebrations.
The ship hosted Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra and Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, while its crew also took part in the Baltimore City Parade.
“Forging Maritime Bonds Across the Atlantic. During her port call at Baltimore, Indian Navy’s Tall Ship INS Sudarshini undertook a series of high-level engagements, including hosting Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Ambassador of India to the USA, and Aruna Miller, Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. The crew participated in the Baltimore City Parade as part of Sail250 Maryland,” the Navy posted on X.
According to the Ministry of Defence, INS Sudarshini arrived at the Port of Baltimore on June 26 as part of its transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 26, highlighting India’s maritime legacy and the growing friendship and cooperation between the Indian and US navies.
The vessel sailed to Baltimore from Norfolk, Virginia, navigating through the historic Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal and passing beneath several iconic mid-Atlantic bridges.
Prior to Baltimore, INS Sudarshini participated in the Sail250 Virginia celebrations in Norfolk from June 19 to 23, joining tall ships from around the world in the Parade of Sail and the City Crew Parade.
The Defence Ministry said the ship has covered more than 13,000 nautical miles over five months since departing from Kochi, describing the voyage as a testament to India’s seafaring traditions and the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, promoting friendship, cooperation and mutual trust across the oceans.
