American and allied air defence systems intercepted multiple Iranian missiles and drones targeting Gulf states…reports Asian Lite News Desk
The United States military said its forces and regional allies successfully intercepted a series of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting neighbouring Gulf countries, while carrying out defensive operations linked to escalating hostilities in the region.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Iran launched several ballistic missiles towards regional states, but none reached their intended targets.
CENTCOM said two missiles fired towards Kuwait either fell short or broke apart before impact, while three missiles launched at Bahrain were intercepted by US and Bahraini air defence systems.
The military also confirmed that American forces conducted protective counter strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island as part of ongoing operations.
The latest escalation unfolded during the early hours of Wednesday, when Kuwaiti air defence systems reportedly engaged and destroyed incoming missiles and drones. Residents across parts of the country reported hearing loud explosions as security forces responded to the aerial threats.
In a statement, Kuwait’s General Staff said the blasts were the result of air defence systems intercepting hostile targets.
“Kuwaiti air defenses are currently confronting hostile missile and drone attacks. The General Staff of the Army notes that if explosion sounds are heard, they are the result of air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks,” the statement said.
Authorities urged residents not to approach debris or unidentified objects that may have fallen during the interceptions, warning that they could pose serious safety risks.
Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al Otaibi called on citizens and residents to report suspicious objects to emergency services and to rely only on official sources for information.
Meanwhile, Bahrain activated emergency procedures, with the Interior Ministry issuing alerts and advising residents to remain calm and move to the nearest safe location.
Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB presented a different account of the events, claiming that US military facilities in Kuwait had been struck in retaliation for what Tehran described as hostile American actions in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and Qeshm Island.
The broadcaster said the attacks were a response to recent military operations involving the United States and its allies.
However, US and Kuwaiti authorities maintained that the incoming missiles had been intercepted before reaching their targets.
CENTCOM said American forces stationed in Kuwait had successfully defeated two Iranian ballistic missiles aimed at US personnel and confirmed that no American service members were injured.
The latest incidents follow a similar episode earlier this week, when Kuwait said it had intercepted another wave of missiles and drones and held Iran responsible for the attacks.
The growing confrontation comes against the backdrop of worsening regional instability following recent military exchanges involving Iran, the United States and Israel, raising concerns about the risk of a broader conflict across the Gulf.
