Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Congress leaders marched towards the Prime Minister’s residence, demanding action over the NEET paper leak and police crackdown on students, reports Asian Lite News Desk
Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, staged a sit-in near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday, demanding accountability over the alleged NEET UG paper leak and police action against protesting students.
The demonstration came a day after a large scale protest in the national capital over the examination controversy, during which several students were detained following clashes with police.
Led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, party workers assembled outside his residence on Rajaji Marg before marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. During the protest, Congress leaders demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him responsible for the handling of the examination controversy.
Rahul Gandhi also called for the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the government had failed to address concerns over the examination process and the police response to student protests.
In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi said the march was intended to seek answers from the Prime Minister over the police action against students who had protested against the alleged paper leak.
Earlier in the day, speaking outside Parliament, the Congress leader criticised the police action against students demonstrating at Jantar Mantar, describing the use of force as unacceptable. He said students were protesting against what he called a “broken education system” and urged the government to apologise for the police response.
The protests follow police action during Monday’s demonstration, when students and youth protesters marching towards Parliament were dispersed. Protest organisers alleged that several demonstrators were injured during the action.
Delhi Police, however, defended its response, stating that protesters displayed “unruly, aggressive and violent behaviour” during the march.
The alleged NEET UG paper leak has emerged as a major political issue, with opposition parties demanding accountability from the Centre and raising the matter both on the streets and in Parliament.
