Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, issued the caution after holding discussions in Riyadh with Asim Munir, the army chief of Pakistan.
Saudi Arabia has warned Iran against what it described as “misguided calculations” as a wave of missile and drone attacks continues to heighten tensions across the Gulf region.
The warning came as the conflict in West Asia intensified, with Iran launching retaliatory strikes targeting Israel, United States military positions and several locations across Gulf states. According to regional authorities, the attacks have involved hundreds of ballistic missiles and thousands of drones directed at military sites, energy infrastructure and civilian areas.
Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, issued the caution after holding discussions in Riyadh with Asim Munir, the army chief of Pakistan.
Following the meeting, the Saudi minister urged Tehran to show restraint and avoid steps that could further destabilise an already volatile regional situation. He expressed hope that Iran would “act with wisdom and reason” and refrain from taking decisions that could escalate the conflict further.
The diplomatic warning came alongside renewed reports of attempted strikes on Saudi territory. The Kingdom said its air defence systems had successfully intercepted another incoming ballistic missile aimed at a military installation southeast of the capital.
According to the Saudi Defence Ministry, the missile had been launched towards the strategically important Prince Sultan Air Base. The missile was detected and destroyed before it could reach its target, officials said.
In a statement shared on social media, the ministry confirmed that the threat had been neutralised without causing damage to the base or surrounding areas.
Saudi authorities also revealed that multiple aerial threats had been intercepted in recent days as the Kingdom’s defence systems responded to a series of attacks.
Four drones were shot down on Friday, including three over eastern districts of Riyadh and another northeast of the capital. In a separate incident, a cruise missile was intercepted above the city of Al-Kharj, preventing it from reaching populated areas.
The series of interceptions underscores the rising pace of aerial threats faced by Gulf states as the broader regional confrontation unfolds.
Earlier this week, Iranian drones also struck the compound housing the United States Embassy in Riyadh. Saudi officials reported that two drones hit the embassy premises, causing a limited fire and minor structural damage.
No casualties were reported in the incident, but the embassy subsequently issued an advisory urging American citizens to avoid visiting the compound until further notice as a precaution.
Energy infrastructure has also been targeted amid the ongoing attacks. The Ras Tanura Refinery — one of the Kingdom’s largest crude processing facilities — was reportedly targeted in a drone strike.
Saudi air defences intercepted the incoming drone before it could strike the facility, preventing damage to the refinery. Officials said the interception ensured that oil production and processing operations continued without disruption.
The Ras Tanura complex plays a critical role in global energy markets, with a refining capacity exceeding 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Any disruption at the site would have implications not only for Saudi Arabia’s energy sector but also for international oil supply chains.
The ongoing attacks across the Gulf highlight the fragile security environment in West Asia, where military exchanges between Iran, Israel and the United States have increasingly spilled beyond traditional front lines.
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly called for restraint while simultaneously strengthening its air defence posture to protect key military installations, diplomatic compounds and vital energy infrastructure.
Regional analysts warn that further escalation could widen the conflict, drawing additional Gulf states into the confrontation and threatening critical global energy routes.
