Iran warns Washington of immediate retaliation if it revives the June peace deal, while Pezeshkian praises Putin and highlights growing strategic ties with Russia, reports Asian Lite News Desk
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that Tehran will respond immediately if the United States returns to a June agreement aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries.
Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek on Tuesday, Pezeshkian said Iran was prepared to take “reciprocal action” if Washington revived its commitments under the deal.
The agreement was intended to pave the way for wider peace negotiations, but has since collapsed amid accusations from both sides that its terms were breached.
Pezeshkian also criticised any return to US “pressure and threats”, warning that such an approach could undermine diplomatic efforts to end the fighting.
His remarks came a day after US President Donald Trump threatened to strike Iran “hard” following renewed exchanges of fire between the two countries.
Pezeshkian also held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit, thanking Moscow for its position during the conflict.
“This shows that our relationship is a strategic relationship; it is not an ordinary relationship,” Pezeshkian told Putin.
Putin said Russia was seeking to provide Iran with the assistance it needed and praised what he described as Tehran’s courage and resilience.
The two countries have strengthened military and economic cooperation in recent years, with both facing extensive Western sanctions.
The summit also brought together Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other regional leaders, highlighting the growing importance of the SCO as a forum for countries seeking closer cooperation outside Western-led alliances.
Putin said emerging regional structures were becoming part of a “multipolar world”, while insisting that the UN Charter should remain central to international law.
