Trump claims progress with Iran amid Middle East war talks; US sends 15-point plan while Tehran denies direct negotiations, highlighting tensions and potential ceasefire discussions, reports Asian Lite Newsdesk
US President Donald Trump has said Washington is making progress in efforts to end hostilities with Iran, claiming Tehran has shown willingness to negotiate, while the White House reportedly sent a 15-point settlement proposal.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said the US was engaging with “the right people” in Iran to reach a deal. “We’re in negotiations right now,” he added, emphasising that the Iranians “want to reach a deal very badly.”
Tehran, however, has denied that direct talks have taken place. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Iran’s parliament speaker, dismissed reports of negotiations as “fake news,” while a military spokesperson, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, questioned Washington’s approach. “Has the level of your inner struggle reached the stage of you negotiating with yourself?” Zolfaqari said, warning that US investments and pre-war energy prices will not return unless Iran’s armed forces are recognised as guarantors of regional stability.
Despite Tehran’s denials, reports from The New York Times indicate that Washington sent a 15-point plan aimed at ending the war in the Middle East. Israel’s Channel 12, citing multiple sources, added that the US is seeking a month-long ceasefire to discuss the proposed plan.
The developments highlight a delicate standoff, with Washington asserting progress while Tehran maintains a cautious public posture, reflecting the complexity of brokering peace amid longstanding regional tensions.
